Thank your local teachers’ union.

I’ve mentioned before that I think unions have by and large outlived their usefulness in the U.S. Teachers’ unions are definitely on that list.

In Los Angeles right now they are paying “teachers” approximately $10 million dollars a year NOT to teach. That’s right, they are being paid NOT to teach. These people are “housed” for different reasons including, “sexual contact with students, harassment, theft or drug possession.” But they still get a paycheck while their cases are under review. Some reviews take months; some take years. Union rules.

Isn’t it great to see your tax dollars at work!

This is the most heartbreaking, convincing, accurate, and informative video I have seen on this topic. The only thing it leaves out is the answer. Why would the President do this?

Simple: Teachers’ unions. That’s his real litmus test for education.




***Update: President Obama has proposed some budget changes including a renewal of the DC voucher program, but only for kids already enrolled. No new students admitted. Quite the change to believe in.

(Public) Islamic School in the US... as in tax payer funded

I don't know if there is anything about this one that doesn't shock and disturb me.

Main points:
- We are a melting pot, we need to encourage the melting part. Students need to learn about ALL of the things that have made this country great. My kids go to a charter school that does not teach and promote religion, but the still learned specifically that the pilgrims came here because their old government would not let them worship God the way that they wanted.
- All schools should fly the American flag... period, end of story.
- Reverse this. What if it was a Jewish charter school and the kids were all asked to where yamicas (sp?) and speak Hebrew. You can't tell me that the people at TIZA academy wouldn't be up in arms.

I don't know how to work the flag pole... pa-lease... and this man is supposed to be an educator? Tell him they need to host a boy scout troupe at the school, then they can teach him how to use the flag poll.

This Global Warming is so bad people are freezing to death!

If you haven't caught on yet that this whole Global Warming thing is a crock, then you obviously aren't paying attention.

I remember as a kid listening to a little news program in school (I forget what it was called) but they were talking about another ice age. Global Cooling was a serious issue.

I can tell you as resident of the Valley of the Sun, I'm all for the Global Cooling phenomenon!

BTW, evidently Senator Obama is among those not paying attention. Read S.1389 introduced by the Senator that would REQUIRE Global Warming to be taught to school children as fact because, at the time, there was a "consensus". Personally I would rather see a BIG FAT PILE OF DATA than a steaming pile of government funded scientist spouting opinions, but hey, that's just me.

I think science should be about things that you can prove, not things that you get a group of grant winners to agree on over coffee.

Why not write a law where kids have to learn things like... reading, writing and math! What a concept!

The funny/sad/horrific thing is that the same people who would say that the school board and justice system are doing the right thing, say that Bush is invading our privacy by tapping the phone of terrorists making calls to other known terrorists.

I know, you have no idea what I am talking about. Read this. Then come back.

When you hear liberals yelling at you for doing something outrageous, like creating a fascist state or an Orwellian government, you have to watch and see what they are doing because chances are that's exactly what THEY are up to. Don't want to vaccinate you kid, hey we'll take them away from you and put you in jail. Don't want to test your kid for rare diseases, we'll rip them right out of your arms. The liberal mantra is that they know what is better for you than you do. They know how to raise you kids better than you do. It is based on an elitist mentality that says the masses are too stupid to make their own decision.

Okay, I'll step down from my soap box now.

Education and Fascism

If you ever listen to talk radio (and of course who doesn't), then you probably listen to Rush Limbaugh during the lunch hours. However, if you aren't a fan of the most listened to show in the history of radio, then you might enjoy another show by a host named Dennis Prager. While Rush is all politics virtually all of the time, Dennis is much more of a deep thinker. His show delves into religion, philosophy and the deep issues. Very entertaining and an almost hypnotic voice. He also has a regular column at Townhall.com

I found his latest column very interesting discussing the inverse relationship between education and morality. Fascinating stuff.
