A little paranoid about this one... but way cool.

I'm not big on magnetic or electrical fields of significant magnitudes running through my body on a regular basis. I try not to think about all of the stuff around me that is putting off all kinds of things from radiation to elec and mag fields.

But all of that aside.

This is a pretty cool deal if they can keep the efficiency of the system up. I imagine that would be the biggest difficulty. This wouldn't do much for our energy crunch if you were losing 40-50% of your power by going wireless.

But...

No power cords. How crazy is that?

Wow, that was an awesome weekend! Crazy, but awesome.

About a month or so ago I tried out for the Kidstuf program at SSCC. I was trying out for one of the characters, but the kids’ pastor called me up and asked me if I would be willing to do the Word. Well, it turns out the character part that I had tried out for was only in 1 show last year since they only do Kidstuf once a month right now, but the Word happens every month. I was really excited about that! I talked it over with B, who was really excited for me and so I got my first script last week. Very cool.

Well, Scott (the kids’ pastor, who does not yet blog) also asked me if I would be willing to participate in the weekly kids’ large group teaching team. I agreed to go and watch it just to see what it is like. Thursday rolled around and the person in charge of the large group called and asked if I would be willing to go ahead and be the storyteller for the large group on Sunday. Uh… I guess that would definitely give me an idea of what it is like, so I spent a good part of Friday and Saturday reading through the script. We normally go to the 10:30 service, but since I was going to be storytelling and B wanted to watch to see if she wanted to be one of the praise leaders for kids’ large group, we decided to attend the 9 am service.

I must say it was awesome. We finished the first part of the Simply Jesus series in a series. The first one was “Encounters”, this one is “Stories”. Awesome, unapologetic, straight from the word stuff. I loved it. Check it out if you get a chance (this week’s isn’t up yet, but look under the Simply Jesus category and pick any of them, they are all awesome).

Anyway, then we went to the kids’ large group and I got to be a French chef and a story teller… four times. I went through the 10:30 and 11:59 services. It was a ball. Number one I love acting like a goof ball and number two I got to teach kids about Godly virtues. It was great. The whole team in there is just awesome!

Now, on the fourth we got invited over to the leaders of the small group that we have been hanging out with. They had the most awesome set up, we went swimming and then played games. The kids had a BALL playing with the other kids, especially in the ultimate basement of kid entertainment (okay, I thought it was pretty cool too). We didn’t watch any fireworks, but we played some really fun games and met some great new friends. B and I had a ball! BTW Settlers of Catan has to be the best board game ever!

THEN Heather and Chris came over on Saturday afternoon for some taco pile up and some Phase 10 (or seven). I have to say, I REALLY hate it when I get in a rut in that game! Ugh!!

Still a lot of fun though.

Throw in three and a half hours of yard work (started at 5 in the morning on Saturday), some laundry, some house cleaning, and some prep work for the serious week of house painting that I have to do this week… and it was a pretty exhausting, but fun, weekend.

This is unbelievable

I've seen some pretty good catches in my time. But not by the ball boy/girl at the game. And this one is AMAZING! I mean, the athletic skill, timing, guts, and just plain effort are... well, just watch.

Crazy cool baby surgeons

Now this is just cool stuff. Can you imagine being told that your otherwise healthy unborn baby has a grapefruit sized tumor on her tail bone that is now robbing her of vital blood and nutrients? How horrible! Now imagine a surgery where they basically do a c-section, pull the uterus out, take the baby out just enough to operate and remove the tumor, then put the baby back, the uterus back and close up the womb. Incredible!

The baby was carried for another 10 weeks and then delivered. After a month in the hospital the baby is going home healthy.

Amazing stuff. Praise God for giving surgeons the talent and the guts to try something like this.

Truly amazing stuff. The applications of this are far reaching.

All kinds of questions come to mind. #1 of course is, what happens if you have a dead battery?

Don't know.

I do know that if they had built the 1977 Nova with this, then many of my classmates would have been spared some door dings delivered by my passengers (both unintentional and shall we say... slightly more than unintentional :)

Either way, pretty cool.

I've been reading about this one for a while, but just in case you haven't seen it, here it is. No, that's not an old satellite dish on top of the Humvee, it's the ultimate in crowd control. The modern day version of boiling oil to disperse a crowd. Although if you are in the beam of this one you can't just hide behind your shield. It gives you the sensation of burning at a scalding 130 degrees. I know that doesn't seem like much to those of you who have had the good fortune of living in PHX in summertime and had a car with... vinyl seats (I think I still have scars), but it is effective.

Friday morning ritual

The only time I normally check the MSNBC site is Friday mornings and ONLY because they have some pretty good photographers and usually some pretty amazing pictures. Of course at the end you get to vote for your favorite. I like that.

Wow, crazy stuff. You gotta love these things. The last time we were in CA we went to a beach near Malibu and played for the afternoon. Out of the dozens of times I've been to the beach, it was the only time that I saw dolphins playing in the water. It was the coolest thing to watch. They would actually ride inside the waves, just feet from from shore. It was SO amazing. Not nearly as amazing as this story but still pretty cool.

I always thought that I would want a harpoon gun if I was being attacked by a great white. Little did I know that what you really need is a pod of dolphins. Sweet.

This is crazy. I know it's still pretty primative, but it's the future coming at you and you won't be able to see it. This is out of the box thinking at it's finest. I heard about this concept years ago and had assumed that they had abandoned it because they just couldn't work out the logistics. Basically there are cameras that take continuous real time footage of whatever is on the other side of the tank and then project that image onto the outside of the tank. Crazy. The genious part is getting it to actually work!

I guess that's not an issue any more. Or at least the issues are getting smaller. I REALLY like the concept of troop body suits that do the same thing. Good stuff!
